Proms at St Jude’s is a community festival of music and culture. It takes place each June in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London NW11. The festival offers daily concerts with top national and international artists; free lunchtime music recitals; a LitFest weekend with best-selling authors and a series of Heritage Walks. Almost everyone involved is a volunteer.
The event gives all surplus funds to charity. Three pounds in four go to the Aspire programme at Toynbee Hall to help disadvantaged young people. The rest goes to the North London Hospice, which helps people in the London boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey to live with a potentially life-limiting illness.
The Literary Weekend has become a mainstay of the Proms programme and is continuing to attract new audiences. The aim is to provide a rich mix of fiction and non-fiction authors, pairing them with insightful interviewers to generate stimulating and entertaining conversations and to give members of the audience the opportunity to pose their own questions. Those who come early will often find the speakers mingling informally in our buzzy LitFest café, and of course there is always an opportunity to buy signed copies of their works after each event.
