The Guardian Hay Festival
What's it all about? Devised by actor and director Peter Florence in 1988, Hay is one of the largest literary festivals in the world boasting internationally acclaimed speakers and merging literature with theatre and arts. One of the largest literary festivals in the UK. Past programme events and performances crossed literature with cabaret, cinema, circus, comedy, environment, film, music, politics, science, screenwriting and visual arts.
Children's Festival Hay Fever runs alongside the Guardian Hay Festival every year.

Highlights? Bill Bryson’s At Home: An Informal History of Private Life, the first Hay interviews with novelist Roddy Doyle and playwright and screenwriter Tom Stoppard, the festival’s opening concert by Irish folk legend Christy Moore , and a conversation with Hilary Mantel about her 2009 Man Booker Prize-winning novel Wolf Hall.
Further events featuring Nobel Laureates Nadine Gordimer and Mohammed ElBaradei, comedians Andy Hamilton and Ross Noble, and world music superstars Toumani Diabate and the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club.
