Painted Ladies: A Jasmine Frame story, published by Troubador ISBN 9781783060689 paperback and 9781783069552 e-book
The Jasmine Frame series of crime novels sees private detective, Jasmine Frame, faced with various crimes while passing through her gender transition. Formerly a police officer, Detective Constable James Frame, Jasmine left the police force owing to friction with her boss DCI Sloane following her transition.
In Painted Ladies, Sloane asks for her help to track down a killer who has taken to targeting transvestites. Working with her former partner, DS Tom Shepherd, Jasmine finds evidence to identify the killer. Despite misgivings about the clashes with her gender identity she agrees to play the part of a flamboyant transvestite to flush out the killer but finds that her life is also in danger.
Jasmine Frame is a unique private detective. As a transitioning transsexual she has problems to overcome concerning her gender identity as well as those presented by the cases she has to solve. In “Jasmine and me”, Penny Ellis presents episodes from the Jasmine Frame stories and introduces Jasmine and the other characters in the novels. Penny relates Jasmine’s experiences to her own as a transgendered woman and discusses the position of transgendered people in society and the media today.
As well as giving her presentation, Penny is happy to join discussions on crime fiction, writing, publishing and gender matters.
