SHOREDITCH FESTIVAL
What? Shoreditch Festival, produced by Shoreditch Trust, is an annual highlight of the East London cultural calendar. The festival contains a literary stream.
This year’s weekend programme of activities, events and performances is completely free to all and takes place in Shoreditch Park from 16 to 18 July 2010.
Shoreditch Festival is part of CREATE 10 – a celebration of culture delivered by a partnership of London’s top outdoor festivals, producers, arts centres, galleries, museums and theatres packed full of world class, home-grown talent.
The 2010 Festival will be Shoreditch Trust’s ninth festival programme.

A stellar line up of internationally-renowned and locally based writers and performers including Shoreditch Sonnets led by Tower Theatre Company and Hackney Libraries, readings from Rachel Lichtenstein author of On Brick Lane, the launch of StarLit Children’s Literature Festival 2010 programme with children’s laureate Anthony Browne, 3 Gals, 3 Ukes and all the best tunes from 20s, 30s and 40s by close-harmony trio The Strumpettes, Talking Latin Music Revolutions with Latin music experts and writers, performance poetry from Poem in Between People and closing the day’s entertainment Rich Mix presents Tongue Fu; the finest poets and spoken word artists flex their ninja moves to an improvised jazz soundtrack.

Proms in Shoreditch Park with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Outstanding orchestral music on a summer’s evening with a spectacular firework finale

Shoreditch Festival Day with entertainment for all ages.

Main Stage
This year’s Main Stage Music sees one of the summer’s most vibrant and eclectic line-ups.
Shoreditch Festival presents some of the best acts from East London and beyond including super-charged eight piece ensemble Brassroots, anarchic gypsy-punk outfit The Destroyers, deliriously danceable all star band Yiddish Twist Orchestra, Congolese Soukous band Zong Zing All Stars, jungle grooves and psychedelic vibes of London's very own Amazonian Cumbia band Los Chinchesand headliners Latin Grammy nominated Afro-Colombian hip-hop sensations Choc Quib Town. DJ Bingly Bongly will be keep audiences entertained throughout the afternoon between live acts.

Big Screen
Barbican Film brings a madcap mix of slapstick shorts to Shoreditch Park with a riotous concoction of family friendly silent film comedy from Buster Keaton with piano accompaniment from Radio 4’s Colin Sell (I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue). The films include The Haunted House, One Week and The Scarecrow.
Throughout the afternoon there’ll also be a superlative selection of animated shorts from Barbican Film and a special film programme curated by the East End Film Festival.
Dance Stage
Mr. Wonderful returns with his much-loved tea dance while Anderson’s Tea tent serves up traditional afternoon teas. Festival-goers will also be treated to a Latin display with some fabulous flamenco dancers.
Family Tent
Little Angel Theatre’s puppet making workshops, Rich Mix Story Telling, interactive workshops from Centre of the Cell and Discover Hackney activities.
Around the Park
Shoreditch Spa hosts an Art of Relaxation Zone with peaceful activities and complementary therapy tasters.
Shoreditch Bark Dog Show - pooches on parade compete in hotly contested categories such as most glamorous, best tail-wagging and best six legs.
Around the park there’s plenty to see including theatre performances, a TFL exhibition, arts projects, growing area, stalls, a food market including Shoreditch Trust’s social enterprise Waterhouse Restaurant and much more.
Sunday 18 July
World in Motion Day
1pm-7pm, Shoreditch Park, free
A large scale creative collaboration between Shoreditch Trust, the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. A day created by young people for everyone featuring live music, fashion, dance and film.
Performances will include UK hip hop dance talents from Boy Blue Entertainment, rising Hackney eight-piece band Lazy Habits, and a special Roots of Reggae at Shoreditch Festival programme featuring Caribbean artists The Viceroys, Gilzene and The Blue Lights Mento Band and Bomba Estéreo on the main stage

Shoreditch Festival aims to bring together communities through engagement in high-quality performances and cultural experiences.
WORLD IN MOTION
World in Motion Day 2009, a day created to showcase the talent of young people, included the participation of over 450 young people aged 11 to 24 who performed and produced a range of their work on a professional platform alongside both their peers and established artists who work with the Barbican and Guildhall School's CONNECT programme.
AWARD WINNING FESTIVAL
Shoreditch Trust was awarded the prize for Culture Project of the Year for Shoreditch Festival at the Regeneration & Renewal Awards 2009.
In November 2008, Shoreditch Trust won an Award for Bridging Cultures (ABCs) for its annual Shoreditch Festival - in recognition of the creative projects it produces to share culture and connect communities through the arts.
