Now safely ensconced in its new family friendly summer holiday slot, and under the direction of local book buff Brid McKibben, the Inverness Book Festival will build on the successes of previous years. Expect the usual mix of local authors, Scottish and UK writers and surprise guests.
Add to that, even more stuff for kids, including the brilliant Bookbug Rhymetimes and daily activities run by our Arts Ed gang and you've got a recipe for happy, contented readers, big or small.

In 2014 - Subjects ranging from the Antarctic with Gavin Francis to 20th Century Ireland with Man Booker shortlisted Sebastian Barry. Tartan Noir with Louise Welsh and Doug Johnstone; 1970s Chicago and beyond with Bonnie Greer. The timing of the festival lends itself perfectly to delve into the Independence Referendum with Robert Crawford and Iain MacWhirter as well as the centenary of the First World War with Nairn born Patrick Watt. Agent-in-residence this year is Isobel Dixon of Blake Friedmann. As well as being an agent, Isobel is also an accomplished and much published poet.
Since the first Inverness Book Festival in 2004 highlights have included Jackie Kay, Ali Smith, Ian Rankin, Iain Banks, Christopher Brookmyre, Mairi Hedderwick, Andy Wightman, Richard Holloway, Michel Faber, Richard Jobson, Jeremy Strong, Joanna Blythman, Louis de Bernieres, Debi Gliori, AL Kennedy, Stuart McBride, James Kelman, Denise Mina, Lari Don, Ian Hamilton, Levi Roots, Andrew Greig, Kevin MacNeil, Grace Maxwell (with Edwyn Collins) and Alistair Urquhart.
