What? Irish and international writers and poets explore themes including war, loss, national identity and modern Irish values.
In a special piece for the 2009 festival brochure, Colm Tóibín remarked that an intimate and nourishing relationship has developed over the last two decades in Ireland between writers and readers and that book festivals have played an important role in nurturing that relationship. Whereas ordinarily a book presents, for both writers and readers, a one-to-one relationship, within the context of a festival it becomes a communal experience. And it’s that sense of being part of a writing and reading community that makes live literature and book festivals such a joy.
