Stefan Buczacki is one of the most experienced non-fiction authors in the country having published around sixty titles with major publishers over thirty years, most reprinted and many translated into several languages. He has also published many thousand features in most leading newspapers and periodicals as well as scientific publications in learned journals. He is recognised as a highly experienced public speaker - including thirty years on cruise ships - and a broadcaster with a devoted following, probably best known for his twelve unbroken years as panellist and chairman on Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time but in all has presented, contributed to or written around two thousand radio and television programmes. He is probably most familiar for his work in gardening and natural history for which he has received honorary degrees and awards including the Veitch Memorial Medal in gold of the Royal Horticultural Society and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Garden Media Guild.
He is also however a respected biographer, a regular contributor to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and recognised internationally as an authority on Winston Churchill and his social circle. His highly acclaimed first full-length biography 'Churchill & Chartwell' was considered by the International Churchill Center in Washington DC to be '…a thoroughly indispensable standard work, as important for the library of any serious Churchill student as the memoirs of close associates'.
His latest major work 'My darling Mr Asquith - the extraordinary life and times of Venetia Stanley' is published in 2016 and has already received serious praise:
'I knew Venetia well and loved her dearly. Stefan Buczacki has, quite brilliantly, brought her back to life. For anyone interested in the social and political world of the period covered by the two world wars, this is essential reading'. John Julius Norwich
'I gained great pleasure and interest from this sympathetic yet penetrating study of the woman who played such a significant part in Asquith's life with some remarkable consequences for her own'. Philip Ziegler
