Ian Buxton Ian is the UK’s best-selling writer on whisky – right now the hottest of spirits.
Author of seven books on whisky, Ian Buxton has been working in and around the drinks industry for rather longer than he can remember (at least 25 years, but who’s counting?) but was drinking professionally well before that!
In a career marked by both incident and accident, he has been Marketing Director of a world-famous single malt; consultant to more distilleries than most folks have had drams; built several award-winning visitor centres; written a variety of articles and books; led great tastings; created a major industry conference and, apparently without noticing, bought a derelict distillery.
He is a Keeper of the Quaich (admit it, you’ve no idea); a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Distillers and a Grand Ordinary Member of the von Poser Society of Scotland – suggesting that he continues to fool at least some of the people some of the time.

Synopses of books:
The 101 Whiskies series are simple, jargon-free, witty and approachable guides to the finest whiskies in the world. As reviewed by the Malt Whisky Yearbook: “I just couldn’t put it down…one of the best whisky books in recent years.”
The latest 101 Legendary Whiskies explores Lost, Luxurious, Living and Legendary Whiskies – extraordinarily hard to find; absurdly expensive; ridiculously rare and even a few household names, all with their own unique stories. The style is well-informed, witty and irreverent.
The Science & Commerce of Whisky (co-author Professor Paul Hughes) is a more serious and academic scientific work, aimed at students and whisky enthusiasts.
Pitch to Festivals Organisers?
Ian is frightfully keen and an all-round good egg. He will turn up on time; present well; engage in lively interaction with the audience – and, if you ask nicely, will bring along some whisky for them to try.
He will attract an audience out of the book festival norm who will stay to buy thousands* of copies of his book(s) at your festival shop.
Ian is clean, completely house trained and remembers his wife’s birthday.
*This is not absolutely guaranteed. They will buy some though.
If you are involved in this festival you can update or change details via the organisers page . Authors can list here.
