Stoke Newington Literary Festival has been described as ‘Unique… the proper London LitFest’ (Irvine Welsh), ‘The coolest literary festival of the summer’ (Authonomy), and ‘A lovingly curated, local-yet-global happening’ (Robin Ince).
The festival celebrates the area’s long history of literature (Edgar Allen Po
e, Daniel Defoe, Mary Wollstonecraft & Anna Laetitia Barbauld lived here) and radical thinking (the Founding Fathers came through the area to pick up the latest ideas from the group of non-conformist academics who settled here). The festival is a non-profit organisation and is proud to support a range of literacy and community projects in Hackney.
