Peter Stafford-Bow has twenty years’ experience in the international wine trade and has worked for some of the world's largest retailers.
A self-taught imbiber, Stafford-Bow dropped out of university to pursue a career in alcohol. After several years working for a chain of wine merchants, he became a supermarket buyer, a role which sent him to every major wine-producing country in the world. After periods working in Hong Kong and South Africa, Stafford-Bow returned to the UK to pursue a literary career.
His debut novel, Corkscrew, following the adventures of a badly-behaved wine buyer, was self-published in 2016 and became a cult hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Corkscrew was spotted by the Andrew Lownie Literary Agency and will be released by Thistle Publishing in July 2018, with a sequel following in 2019.
Alongside his writing career, Stafford-Bow works as a wine consultant and communicator. He lives in West London with his beer executive girlfriend.

US & UK July 2018: Corkscrew: The highly improbable, but occasionally true, tale of a professional wine buyer.
Corkscrew: The highly improbable, but occasionally true, tale of a professional wine buyer is a satirical novel, a cross between Sideways and The Wolf of Wall Street, with a sprinkle of Tom Sharpe. It features Felix Hart, a cheerfully amoral young man forging a career in the supermarket wine industry. Set in 1990s London and number of wine regions across the globe, the story sees Felix Hart involve himself in a series of escapades which set his moral compass spinning. These culminate in a dangerous mafia people-smuggling conspiracy, forcing Hart to choose between his selfish past or the side of the angels.
Finalist, National Indie Excellence Awards 2017
Queens Park Book Festival (June 2018), Ryedale Book Festival (Sept 2018).
I am an experienced public speaker and have hosted dozens of combined readings and wine tastings at bookshops, bars and theatres since Corkscrew was published.
My live events are unique: I alternate humorous excerpts from the novel with wine tastings, discussing the taste, historical and cultural context of wine as well as the background to my writing and wine career. An event best timed for a late afternoon or early evening slot!
