Biography Karen Wright
Karen Wright was born in West London but moved to Sherborne at the age of seven and spent a happy childhood growing up in Dorset where she stayed until her early teens. Then, due to her father being promoted, she returned with her family to London. During her time in Sherborne, she attended Sherborne Primary school and St Aldhelms Secondary.
It was a visit to Wookey Hole caves that sparked her interest in the history and legends surrounding the Mendip Hills and ultimately led to the creation of the Winterne Series of books.
The stories of fabled tunnels from Glastonbury Abbey to the outlying villages inspired the ‘Winterne’ stories and Karen allowed her imagination to run wild with the endless possibilities of what may lie within the undiscovered caves under the Mendip Hills.
Although London was home to her family, Karen never forgot her love of the West Country and was delighted when she was able to move back with her own family in 1986 but this time to Somerset where she lived near to Street and Glastonbury. During the time Karen lived in Somerset she worked as a secretary at Clark’s in Street and a Sales Administrator for Showerings, who were then based in Shepton Mallet. She has many happy memories of the area, the people who became friends and the wonderful stories and rumours.
Karen is now an Office Administrator in Adult Social Care. She has two grown up children and one grand-daughter and lives in the East Midlands with her husband, one dog, two cats and seventeen fish in the garden pond.
Karen is also 'chair person' of a self help group for new writers who are looking for help or information on what to do about writing your first novel and useful things that will help along your journey.
