Singapore Writers Festival 2011 To Host Man Asian Literary PrizeLonglist Announcement
21-Oct-2011HONG KONG – The longlist for the 2011 Man Asian Literary Prize is to be announced on Saturday 29th October in Singapore by prize judge and author of 'Slumdog Millionaire', Vikas Swarup.
The Man Asian, widely recognised as the leading literary prize for Asian writers, is now in its fifth year and will be making its first visit to Singapore to host an event at the Writers Festival.
Chair Director, Prof. David Parker, said "We are thrilled to be announcing this year's longlist with an event at Singapore Writers Festival, promoting Asian literature right across the region. This year has seen some stunning new books by Asian writers being published and we are excited to see which books our judges have chosen for the 2011 longlist."
The three judges for this year's prize are Pulitzer-prize shortlisted author of The Surrendered, Chang-rae Lee, and Vikas Swarup, author of Q&A which was filmed as the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire. The judges are chaired this year by BBC Special Correspondent Razia Iqbal.
Chinese writer and winner of the 2010 Man Asian Literary Prize for Three Sisters, Bi Feiyu, will be taking part in a panel discussion at the Writers Festival with one of last year's shortlisted novelists Manu Joseph, author of Serious Men.
This public event will be chaired by Prof. David Parker and will take place on Saturday 29th October at 5pm at The Salon in the National Museum of Singapore. Following the discussion, a press conference will commence at 5:45pm where the 2011 longlist will be unveiled by prize judge Vikas Swarup.
