Newark Book Festival is returning to Newark in July 2018 with the town’s biggest ever celebration of books and literature.
Taking place across three days from the 13th to 15th July 2018, this year’s theme will be Landscapes in Literature with the festival celebrating local literary heritage, fictional worlds, and highlighting the importance of location in fiction and non-fiction writing.
Building on the success of the first revamped event in 2017, which drew almost 2,500 people to Newark, the 2018 festival will be taking place across 11 venues throughout the town, including for the first time, Newark Palace Theatre and Carriages cafe.
This year’s event is set to have an even more impressive line up, with a themed marketplace full of literary inspired stalls and performances for the whole family to enjoy.
The very popular family workshops are set to return, and the children’s programme will have a Once Upon a Land theme. It’s hoped that the event will prove even more popular with its new programme of events.
Jeremy Blatherwick from Tallents Solicitors which is sponsoring the children’s programme said: “Newark Book Festival was a wonderful event to be a part of last year. It proved to be extremely popular and it captured the town’s imagination, bringing thousands of people into Newark. It really is a celebration of all things literature and there’s something for everyone, young and old. We’re proud to be helping the festival build on its success to become even bigger and better for 2018.”
Other companies sponsoring the event include Duncan & Toplis, Karrot Entertainment and Trigger Press. The festival has been awarded funding through Grants for the Arts from the Arts Council of England as well as funding and support from Newark & Sherwood District Council and Newark Town Council, but more help is needed.
Sara Bullimore, organiser for Newark Book Festival, said: “I couldn’t have wished for a better first year - now we’re pulling out all the stops for 2018. We’re partnering with more local authors, businesses and arts groups to make it bigger and better than ever and we want as many residents as possible to get involved.
“We’d love more members of the community to support us by becoming Friends of the Festival or by sponsoring an event. It’s going to be an amazing festival and I can’t wait to reveal all the wonderful things we’ve got in store.”
