On February 23 at The Ritzy in Brixton there'll be a launch for new The Rialto pamphlet 'Cold Fire' (which is subtitled 'Poetry Inspired by David Bowie'). The pamphlet is edited by Alex Bell and John Canfield.
The Rialto editor Michael Mackmin writes:
Inside this pamphlet you will find eighteen poems by eighteen poets who are at the sharp end of the cutting edge of contemporary British poetry. The occasion, the impetus, that evoked these poems is the death in January 2016 of David Bowie. Whatever you call him, mercurial, chameleon of ecstasies, Bowie had a big effect on those whose souls sparked with his. The music, the words, the sheer dazzle of his curiosity woke many to awareness of their own creativity, their own curiosities – musical, intellectual, sexual, metaphysical. There are those that say he was a lyricist. I'm relatively untutored but I'd say he was a poet, and I think it's fitting that he is here firmly placed in the company of poets. And OK maybe we need more song, more singing in our poetry today.
Featuring readings from poets featured in the pamphlet, a chance to sing along with Bowieoke and music and partying, so put on your red shoes. Bowie costumes encouraged.
