2011 Shortlist Dylan Thomas Prize
21-Oct-2011- The Dylan Thomas Prize is an annual literary prize, named after the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, "awarded to the best published writer in English under the age of 30 from anywhere in the world".
The prize is unique in its broad range of eligible material, covering novels, short story collections, poetry collections and plays.
The winner of the prize receives £30,000. The prize was set-up in 2004 and the inaugural prize was awarded in October 2006 to Rachel Trezise and Nam Le in 2008. Originally the prize was bieenial but from 2010 the prize has bee awarded annually
It is open to all published authors in the 18 to 30 age group, writing in English, from anywhere in the world. It includes a variety of genres, including short stories, novels, poetry and plays.
There are five writers in the running this year including first time writers Yorkshire-based Annabel Pitcher, New York-based Benjamin Hale and Belgrade-born and New York-based Tea Obreht who won this year's Orange Prize for Fiction.
With them on the shortlist are Canadian poet, blogger and literary critic, Jacob McArthur Mooney and Belfast-born and London-based Lucy Caldwell whose novel Where They Were Missed was previously shortlisted for the prize in 2006.
